Clamshell

The Clamshell is a more advanced therapeutic exercise not intended for use during acute care. It is usually introduced during the stabilization phase of treatment. Watch the video on how to perform the Clamshell and read below for the benefits.

Benefits of Clamshell:

  • Strengthens specific glute muscles called the gluteus medius.

  • Helps stabilize the hips and pelvis.

  • Can improve walking patterns in some individuals.

  • Better coordination of the hips and pelvis can decrease the chance of injuring the low back.

Always use care when doing any therapeutic exercise or stretch, especially if not specifically prescribed to you. Cease this activity if you experience adverse effects.
